The terrace house in York is the home of Ruth and Rich. They decided a refresh of the downstairs living room was in order and set out to find a York builder. Ruth initially found AG Developments by chance after spotting one of their vans in York.
Rich had dreamt of a luxury kitchen for years and Ruth had many ideas of what the house could become with her keen eye for design, so it was a match made in heaven when Graham from AG Developments started thowing ideas for the project which Ruth had already had.
The down stairs of the terrace house was set to become an inviting social living space where everyone can feel part of the occasion. With acosy seating area flowing into a dining area next to the amazing kitchen space which was pushed out into the unused yard the home is transformed.
The finishing touchs such as the light under the mantle piece and the stunning decoration tie the individual areas together to make an amazing space.
The works weren't without some struggles such as dust but the team worked diligently to deliver the perfect build.
Alex even replaced the old gates in the courtyard to finish the outside space.
The biggest challenges for the couple was the dust but the team at AG Developments looked after everything. Keeping the house clean and making sure Ruth and Rich were surviving made the build a much easier project.
The kitchen is Richs' favourite part with his love for cooking and Ruth adores the whole transformation.
The build involved numerous elements all brought together to deliver a stunning home:
We first heard about AG when Ruth had actually come home one day. We were in the marketplace for builders and Ruth had said that she'd been seen the vans around the corner and that she really liked the look of them For Ruth that's a really important thing, the design. They were members of the Federation of Master Builders and I think it was 'From the heart of Yorkshire' was the tag line. I just really lik the work they done thought that it was very much to our taste. They seem to have a really good ethos behind everything too, The planting of trees and things like that. We just thought we give him a call. When Graham came around it was just we clicked straight away. He got us he understood. He was really open and honest with us was coming up with ideas that we had already had, so we saw that as a real positive. He was just really excited about the project, he just came in and said how great the house was.
The kitchen behind us was originally a galley kitchen which was the right hand side of the kitchen, that led into a back door on to a part of the garden, and what we wanted was that wall taken out and the kitchen extended out to encompass the piece of unused land and we just wanted bigger kitchen. That kind of snowballed into things that we wanted, we wanted to change the whole dynamic of where we were, the whole space. We've had the whole downstairs remodelled. We've had an arch taken out, we've had a door moved, and yeah, just it's totally different! If you'd seen it before you would see it's just an absolutely different house! I mean it has really changed the way we use the house. Ruth and I, what we like to do, we're not people that go out very often so we like to have people around and what this has given is just the space, the kitchen to do it. It's the kitchen I always wanted. I love cooking, I love cooking for my family, and my friends. It's made a massive difference in our front room. When you see the front room it's a lot more cozy and and just, it's just a nice space to be in. I think it's it's just a more social area. As Rich says we have people coming around for dinner or just for drinks, girls, mates and whatever and before we were very separate in the kitchen, if you're in the kitchen you weren't part of what was happening. in the other room, whereas now, you can chat and have a drink, and talk to everybody who's here as well. It just works so much better.
The main challenge in the project was dust. It was the dust, the upheaval, just the you know, we ended up living like students out of the bedroom but I will say, what I will say is that despite that, the guys were so good at keeping the place tidy keeping the impact to us and our daily lives, to as minimum as possible. Graham and Alex are so proactive, so open with you that they will just say right we need to do this. This has happened so we're going to have to think, come at that from a different angle and they just get it done. So they just think laterally, whereas you know we were getting bogged down with problems and they're like 'no there's always a way around this' and 'we'll do it this way', 'we'll do it that way' and they were just amazing.
My thing is I love cooking, I love cooking for my friends, my family, and for Ruth and just having that kitchen for me that is my dream kitchen. This is something I've dreamt about for the past 15 years, so yeah, for that that to come around, that is, for me, the standout is the kitchen. I just absolutely love it. I think, yeah, the kitchen, but I think the whole package. I think the fireplace, what we've done in the in the living room, we've got this quite clinical looking kitchen but then we've got our cozy part of the living room, and I I just think it all works as a whole. I think for me, not one thing stands out, it all has to be together for it to work. It's just transformed, and I just can't believe that this has happened in a little Victorian Terrace House in York!
